Marina Alta interior valleys

Leaving the coastal area and the beaches, the inland area of the Marina Alta offers mountain  landscapes of great beauty. There are numerous villages, which are worth a visit to appreciate the tranquillity and beauty that can be found in them. Most of them are grouped in valleys: Vall del Pop, Vall de Laguart, Vall de Gallinera and Vall d’Ebo.

They are different valleys that can be seen on a day trip visiting the different villages, many of them are very close to each other and it is possible to make walking routes to link them.

The Vall del Pop is made up of the towns of: Benijembla, Murla, Parcent, Alcalalí, Xaló, Lliber, Senija and Benissa, in all of them there are numerous hiking routes to discover the landscapes, their constructions, mountains, one of the most beautiful routes to do is The route of the almond trees in blossom, in the month of February and early March, there are two routes and they can be started from Alcalalí or from Jalón.

It is also possible to follow the route of the Riuraus, which are emblematic constructions of this area and unique in the world. Their main use was as drying sheds to convert the muscatel grapes into sultanas.

As the whole area is surrounded by mountains, apart from hiking, mountain biking and climbing are also possible.

Vall de Laguart, formed by the villages of: Benimaurell, Campell, Fleix and Fontilles, all of which form a single municipality.

This valley is known for being the place that hosts one of the most beautiful and difficult hiking trails in Alicante’s province:  El Barranco del Infierno,  a demanding route, which requires some preparation, is a circular route with numerous ups and downs, a real natural wonder, formed by the river Girona, which separates the Sierra de la Carrasca or Ebo, the Sierra del Migdia and crosses the entire valley to reach the Isbert Reservoir. Along this route we will find numerous stone steps (more than six thousand), ravines, the Forat de la Juvea, the Barranc de Salt when there are abundant rains, gives rise to an impressive waterfall of 65 meters high, is undoubtedly a route that you can not miss if you visit this area.

This valley is also known for the cultivation of cherries, it even has a denomination of origin, Alicante Mountain Cherries, to see the cherry blossom you have to go in spring, and by the month of June, you can enjoy this exquisite delicacy and appreciate the beauty of the trees full of cherries while strolling through the area.

It is also highly recommended to visit caves such as the Cova de les Calaveres, on the northern slope of the Segili mountain, in the municipality of Benidoleig.

Vall de la Gallinera: made up of the villages of Benirrama, Benialí, Benissivà, Benitaia, La Carroja, Alpatró, Llombai and Benissili.

There is a route to visit these 8 villages, it is a beautiful route that does not present significant difficulties for the walker, as most of the route is on asphalted or well conditioned roads and the slope is gentle, where there are sections that can also be covered by bicycle. All along the route we can enjoy beautiful landscapes, nature in its purest state, as well as enjoy the local gastronomy and the products of the area such as honey, cherries, mistela, jams, etc,

If you like hiking and being surrounded by nature, a visit to La Peña Foradada is a must. It dominates the landscape from wherever you are in this beautiful valley, from the top you can see the eight villages that make up the valley, the Mariola, Safor and Benicadell mountains and even the sea.

Vall d’Ebo:

This valley also offers hiking enthusiasts marked trails totalling a total of 48 Kms in the municipality. Nature has carved in the Ebo Valley one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Valencian Community: the Barranco del Infierno (Hell’s Ravine), which can also be visited from this valley.

The ‘Avencs’ make this municipality a special place. They are large chasms that suddenly appear in the ground, with mouths of more than 20 metres wide and a depth of between 57 and 140 metres. You have to be careful where you put your feet.

The Rull cave also has remarkable geological values. Here you can see stalagmites, stalactites, lava flows and flags.

Another essential route is the so-called route of Els Tolls, a corner of the river Ebo or Girona where there are natural pools of water and where, since time immemorial, the people of the village and visitors have bathed in the summer season.

Outdoor yoga in Benissa Costa

If you practice yoga all the year round, going to classes or at home, now on holidays you can try to practice it outdoor, it’s is a very pleasant experience, either if you practice it in the countryside or by the sea, the sounds around can help you with the concentration, as there are sounds, like the birds or the waves, but they do not disturb.

Also, if you have never tried, may be this is the best time to prove and see if you like it, you do not need a very advanced level, the basic exercises are suitable for all kind of people and ages, and provide many benefits, physical and  psychological benefits (if you suffer from any injury, the best is to inform the instructors so that they can let you know if any exercise is not recommended for you), but in general, practising yoga is a pleasant and relaxing activity, as you should not forget that you are the one who sets the limits and if a posture causes you pain or discomfort, you are not obliged to maintain it, you can simply return to the initial position or modify the posture until you feel comfortable, the practice of yoga is about having fun with yourself, not about competing with anyone.

Benissa Town Hall, as every year, during the months of July and August, in its summer program has included free yoga outdoor classes, so you have two options:

Every Monday and Wednesday at 20.00h at the Fustera Beach

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.00h at the Ecological Walk ( tourist info ).

Breathing deeply in the fresh sea air cleanses the lungs and increases energy. The salty sea air is full of beneficial negative ions. The sound of the waves brings about a meditative state of mind. One of the most important elements of yoga is breathing: creating a calm mind and delivering oxygen to the muscles. The rhythmic sound of the waves replicates our own breathing rhythms. Doing yoga on the beach in the morning or at sunset especially promotes this conscious state and brings a sense of peace.

There are many benefits: you will be on a wonderful enviroment, you can meet new people, you can dedicate a bit of time only and exclusively to yourself, and the most important thing: you will have a great time, what more do you need?,

Have you got plans to visit the Costa Blanca? Do not hesitate to stay in one of our wonderful villas for rent in Benissa, Moraira or in Calpe . We look forward to seeing you!!

Moraira is one of the most beautiful villages on the Costa Blanca and it has everything you need for an unforgettable holidays. Here are some of the activities you can do in this little paradise:

Diving and Snorkelling:

Being surrounded by the sea, it is impossible not to be seduced by the mysterious underwater world, from Moraira there are several routes that can be done: Cap Blanc, Cala Andragó, El Portet, Cap D’or, El portitxol, from where we can contemplate the varied flora and typical fauna of these seas, we can find: sea bream, damselfish, blennies, blennies, castanets and other smaller species, and as we move a little further out we can see meadows of abundant posidonia in which the young fish find refuge and serve as permanent pasture for salps and thrushes, moray eels, the odd ray, starfish, sea urchins, even lobsters, and it is not unusual to come across the odd octopus or cuttlefish.

Kayak and stand-up paddle:

What better way to do sport without being too hot while contemplating the coast and enjoying the cliffs, caves, coves inaccessible by land, as well as small corners of crystalline waters where you can swim away from the hustle and bustle of the world, At Portet Beach you have the option of renting a kayak or board and from there, one of the most beautiful routes you can do is to go around Cap D’or and continue sailing to Cala Llebeig, or if you feel like going further (remember that you have to go back), you can arrive  to Cala Moraig, in Benitachell.

Another route that you should not miss is the one that leaves from Platjetes beach in Moraira towards Calpe and goes through numerous coves such as L’Andragó, Punta Estrella, Baladrar, Cala Advocat, Cala Llobella … and thus, parallel to the coast, you can reach Calpe, enjoying the landscape, the calm and crystal clear and shallow waters.

Bicycle rides:

There are many routes to do in the whole area, the the Town Hall’s tourism webpage  recommends three of them in which you will be able to contemplate the landscape, the vineyards, as well as beautiful panoramic views with the sea in the background.

Moraira-Benimarco-El Portet-Moraira approx. 19km

A walk through the Marina Alta mountains

The Marina Alta area has much more to offer the traveller than beaches or the sea, there is so much to discover, we invite you to take a walk through the most famous mountains in this area, in this post we will talk about the mountains that surround us and where you can go for a walk or a hiking route, although in the summer months when the heat is more intense, we recommend that you do these routes either very early in the morning or in the afternoon when the sun is losing intensity.

SIERRA DE BERNIA:

With an altitude of 1. 129 metres, it stretches some 10 kilometres perpendicular to the coast, without doubt is the jewel in the crown, visible from almost all points, this impressive mountain range with incredible landscapes, cave paintings, even a fort, will leave you breathless with its magnificent views, you can reach this mountain range from different points: from Pinos ( Benissa ), Altea la Vella, les Fonts de l’Algar ( Callosa ) or Cases de Bèrnia ( Xaló ) and you can do different routes, without a doubt the most famous is the circular route that starts from the Caserío de Bernia ( it is also the longest as it goes around the whole mountain ) with an obligatory stop at “El Forat”, a hole that crosses the mountain and ends in a cave with spectacular views of the coast where you can see from Altea to Benidorm.

For the more sporty, leaving from the Forat, you can also start a route to La Cresta ( the top ), although it is quite steep and of very high difficulty, in some sections we will have to pass helped by chains so it is recommended to have a previous training and above all, not to have vertigo.

Along the way, we will find various information panels both of the routes and of the points of interest that we will find.

SIERRA DE OLTÁ:

It is an essential visit for nature and hiking lovers, as well as having another perspective of the town of Calpe with its famous rock and the Mediterranean Sea in the background. From the Aitana Shopping Centre, there is a path that goes up to the Oltamar Urbanisation and Oltá Camping Area, where the routes start. In the camping area there are many trees, especially pines that offer some shade, but as we go up, the landscape changes to give way to less lush vegetation.

There are two routes which are very well signposted: a circular route made up of tracks and signposted paths that allow you to climb to the summit at 587 m altitude with a distance of about 10 km and a duration of about 4 hours or, if you do not want to do the circular route, you can also climb to the summit, in this case along a well signposted path that passes through the Pou de la Mola, although at the beginning there is a quite steep and rocky section, which is the most complicated part, the rest is not difficult at all. In both cases we will enjoy the typical flora and of the area, numerous birds and even those who go to the top will be able to see mountain goats.

NATURAL PARK OF MONTGÓ

The Park, which covers an area of more than 2,000 hectares and is located between Dénia and Javea, is home to more than 650 species of flora and vegetation and a fauna typical of this Mediterranean area, with more than 150 species of vertebrates.

There are numerous routes starting from both Javea and Denia, from Javea perhaps the best known route is the route to the Cova Tallada, a huge cave located on the slopes of Montgó and Cabo de San Antonio, within the park. It is accessed via a short but slightly dangerous path that leaves from Les Rotes (Dénia). In the summer months, access is regulated due to the overcrowding that occurs at this time of year, but if you have the opportunity to visit it, it will not leave you indifferent.

Another route is the one that will take us to the summit from Denia. Along the way, apart from having the sea accompanying us all the time, we can find and enjoy caves, we will pass by the Cross of Denia, the hermitage of Padre Pere, and if we are lucky and it is a clear day, we can see the coastline as far as Cullera and in the background, the Balearic Islands.

NATURAL PARK OF PEÑON DE IFACH

An essential route for anyone visiting this area, it is easy to access, although it is very important to wear suitable footwear, as in some sections, due to so many visits, the rocks are polished, making it easy to slip if you do not have the right equipment, although the effort will be worth it, as we are practically surrounded on all sides by the sea, the sea breeze and the views will more than compensate the effort, along the way we will find numerous viewpoints and when we reach the top, we will have a 360º view of the city of Calpe.

To get to the Rock, the route starts at the Visitor Centre and you can follow the signs for the Peñon de Ifach Peak Route. This is a circular route of about 4.6 kilometres of medium difficulty. It is estimated to last two and a half hours.

Do you need a place to stay while you enjoy Calpe and surrounds? Come in and get to know one of these villas for rent in Benissa, Moraira or in Calpe . And, as you know, if you eat and sleep well, you will enjoy the day much better!

We are lucky to belong to this little piece of paradise and we are proud when we advise our customers the best restaurants in the area, the best routes, the better corners that only locals know, but we fill up with more pride when we describe the nature of our land.

A very diverse nature that brings together everything that a person needs to enjoy on their vacations: Sea, mountains, history, parties, people and weather, plus an infinite range of surprises and secrets that the traveler must discover for himself.

However, today we want to talk about our coastline and one of the most fun, enriching and satisfying sports or hobbies that visitors can do in our coves without equal.

To start, the visitor can use the 4 kilometers of the total of our coves in an ecological walk that allows you to see the coast from a privileged point and go through the various coves, stop at each one of them and enjoy its coastal and aquatic fauna and flora and make a underwater hiking.

To do this, from Villas Holidays Costa Blanca, you We advise you to enjoy Snorkeling.

The characteristics of the coast of Benissa, with waters clean and shallow coves, they are perfect for diving without bottle, known by the snorkel. This is a fun, easy activity, cheap and optimal to know the interesting seabed of Benissa, our extensive underwater paradises of posidonia.

To practice Snorkeling you only need a pair of glasses diving, fins and breathing tube. Also, you can tour the following six routes: Les Basetes, La Fustera, Els Pinets, LLobella, L´Advogat, and El Baladrar.

The depth can vary between 3 and 8 meters and the time to do the tour can last between 20 minutes in the Els Pinets cove up to the 35 minutes needed to travel the Platgeta L’Advocat.

Practicing this sport or hobby you will discover a wildlife and flora very diverse and very extensive. For this, we recommend the Cala Advogat. A cove with Mediterranean character and strong beauty. Already from the surface it is verified that the visibility is exceptional. The bottom grows progressively and very soon it is about -6 meters and looks perfectly transparent. The calm sea helps this visibility and allows the powerful morning sun rays to penetrate strongly.

Also, like the families that they go with children, transparency them It offers more confidence, it is already known that many times what is not seen is feared. By that, as soon as you jump into the water and put your head and look at the bottom will open A smile that will hardly fit in the diving mask. They will be surrounded by fishes.

The posidonia meadow is lush, in very good condition and strolled by huge banks of salps between which the human body and marine beauty can be mixed. The background is bright and alternates the sandy clearings where you can give the opportunity to witness the silhouette of a marine animal such as the stripe that are very dear to children for being such elegant beings with their swimming movements.
