Markets and Flea Markets

Undoubtedly, one of the best things to do on holiday, when there is plenty of time and we don’t have to rush from one place to another, is to wander around the numerous markets all over the Costa Blanca and enjoy a pleasant morning buying the freshest fruits and vegetables at the best prices, typical local products that are hard to find in supermarkets, as well as flowers, plants, crafts, clothes, shoes and all kinds of products offered by the local markets.

Here is a summary of a the markets to be found in the area and the opening days:

Markets in Teulada-Moraira:

The Teulada Market is open every Wednesday from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm and there are numerous fruit and vegetable stalls, there is a stall selling salted fish and cheese which is a must if you want to buy typical and little known products such as dried octopus, as well as stalls selling clothes, crafts, flowers and plants, footwear, etc…

Calpe Market: opens every Saturday, from 8.00 to 14.00h.

It is a very large market, with many stalls offering the freshest products from local producers, clothes for all ages, household linen, crafts, hats, bags, costume jewellery, footwear, etc…

And if we haven’t had enough and we still want to wander around and look for vintage jewellery, antiques or curious objects to take home as souvenirs or home decoration, there are numerous flea markets with antique items all over the area where we can find everything from real treasures to “junk” that may not be of any use at all. What is clear is that each object is unique and surely we will not find two alike, also in this area, as there are many foreign residents, there are many stalls with items from their countries that are real wonders and most of the things we can find them at ridiculous prices. .  Here is a list of the best flea markets in the area:

Jalón Flea Market

It’s open every Saturday from 8.00 to 14.00h.

Without doubt the most famous and where you will surely find something that fascinates you (if not everything), it has a part with stalls with new things like clothes, crafts, local products like wine or oil and its most famous part are the antique stalls where you can find anything you can think of, from a wood carving, antique furniture, objects from a church, old books and records, to swords, mirrors, kitchen utensils from the 50’s, vintage glass bottles and a long etc.

Pedreguer Flea Market

It’s is open every Sunday from 9.00 to 13.00h.

Here we also find a part of fresh products such as fruit and vegetables,  new clothes and articles and another part which are the second hand stalls, or vintage articles, here we can find both stalls of professional sellers, and stalls of individuals who take advantage of the flea market to sell things they want to get rid of, there is also everything, we can find stalls of second hand clothes, vintage military articles (helmets, suits, decorations…), costume jewellery, vintage objects, etc. the flea market is set up in an industrial estate and several of the warehouses are also second-hand furniture shops, with very good offers and very good prices.

La Nucia Flea Market

It is a huge flea market, where you can spend half a morning walking around without even noticing, it has a part of new products and articles and a part of second-hand articles, there are many stalls with furniture, vintage clothes, records, books, costume jewellery, decorative objects (old weights, siphons, glass bottles,  porcelain…) all at very affordable prices.

Finally, although it’s not a flea market, we can’t fail to recommend it:

El mercat del riurau de Jesus Pobre which is opens on Sundays:

During the winter, from 9 am to 2 pm.

During the summer (until 11 September), from 6pm to 11pm.

It is a very particular market held in a beautifully restored riurau where local farmers and producers offer their freshest products every Sunday, freshly picked fruit and vegetables, honey, wine and mistela, bread, oil, there is even a horchata stall which is a must to stop for a fresh drink and continue your visit, the market has an incredible atmosphere, there are also tables to have a drink and live music, it is one of the places you should not miss on your holidays on the Costa Blanca. And if you need accomodation in this beautiful area full of Mediterranean beauty, we recommend you to stay in one of our villas for rent in Benissa, Moraira and Calpe.
